What’s the buzz about….the bees?

People smiling at phone

You might have noticed we often mention “our bees.” It's been a while since we've cleared up the confusion, so here's a re-introduction to our bees!

No, we are not beekeepers—no honey-making, spacesuit-wearing, or swarm-taming here (though we deeply admire those who do). Instead, “bees” is our term for all of the individuals around the world who are part of our wonderful Streetbees community.

What is the Streetbees community and who are our bees?

Our bees are the members of a vibrant community of 10 million mobile app users worldwide. They partake in our conversational surveys, sharing details about their lives, behaviours, opinions, and purchasing decisions in the moment. This allows our clients to get the bespoke insights they need straight from real people to fuel their decisions.

Here’s just a couple of ways our clients use the information gathered from our community of participants:

  • Innovation: Assess reactions to an idea, a concept, or a product, and measure the appeal among your audience and the likelihood of adoption.
  • Shopper: Explore shopper behaviours, understand the path to purchase, or deep dive into the end-to-end experience.
  • Customer Experience: Discover how your customers feel about and experience your products and services and identify important improvements.
  • Category Exploration: Understand motivations, frustrations, and unmet needs in relation to a specific category, product, or service.
  • Brand: Measure your brand’s health and positioning by exploring its values, competitive edge, and performance across the funnel.
  • Trends and Topics: Learn how people define and engage with certain trends and topics and identify ways in which your brand can leverage this.

And many more!

How do they communicate with us?

SBX, our AI-driven insights tool, has individual conversations with participants through our WhatsApp-style app! SBX uses a combination of open-text and closed-text questions and optimises its follow-ups in real-time based on what the participant has shared. Our bees share their responses in the form of open-text, photos, and videos, just like you would expect from a normal text conversation. This qualitative approach provides the depth of a 1:1 interview at the scale of a survey, making it easier to capture the ‘why’ behind the ‘what’ in people’s own, unbiased words.

Why do they participate?

Great question. Firstly, our bees are passionate about shaping the future of products and consumer experiences. People love to be heard, and our bees are no exception. Additionally, we believe in fair compensation for the rich details they provide, so yes, we do pay them for some of their participation.

When do they share this information?

Unlike traditional diary studies or panels, our bees can share their views and behaviours in real-time. They can even let us know what they’re consuming and why, right at the moment. This immediacy captures the true emotional drivers behind their choices—because, like bees, humans’ actions are often driven by feelings. Plus, relying on memory alone can be unreliable.

Where are these bees located?

Our bees are everywhere! They hail from over 70 countries, submitting over a million stories each month in their own languages. Whether you’re looking to grow your brand in Tennessee or Timbuktu, Indonesia or Ipswich, our bees are there to provide honest insights on product engagement.

How do we process all this data?

Using our proprietary technology and taxonomies, SBX then automatically classifies, quantifies, and analyses the responses and transforms the data into a tailored, interactive report. This includes an executive summary, charts, themes, rich consumer verbatims, and photos/videos, allowing you to fuel your decisions with robust numbers and rich nuance.

In summary, our bees are the essence of what we do. They offer us contextually rich, emotionally charged insights into their lives, which is pure nectar for brands.
